MAPSLab (Online) Publications

Over the years the Digital Mapping Laboratory has produced many technical reports in the area of the automated analysis of remotely sensed imagery. These papers describe research in several subject areas: automatic building extraction, road network extraction, photogrammetry, scene registration and stereo matching, digital terrain modeling, analysis of multispectral imagery, and the development of knowledge-based systems for scene interpretation. In keeping with the philosophy that reprints are better out in the world than cluttering up our offices, or hidden on our disks, we have compiled this handy list of available (online) publications.

     * Overview Papers
     * Cartographic Feature Extraction
     * Photogrammetry
     * Registration and Stereo
     * Analysis of Multispectral Imagery
     * Spatial Databases and Construction of Virtual Worlds
     * Knowledge-Based Systems

Those papers that we currently have ready for distribution over the internet are marked with the symbol: `pdf', for Adobe PDF format documents and/or the symbol: `ps', for Adobe PostScript format documents. A few additional documents, such as published books, are marked with the symbol: `transfer', indicating that you will be transfered to an external page (e.g., a publisher's website) with instructions for obtaining the paper (or book)

After the download symbol, there is the block-size of the file (this is usually a little larger than the transfer size, but gives the approximate size of storage space needed for the file); finally, there is a rating, [grayscale] or [color], which may help to guide you to the proper print medium. The former indicates papers that were written for publication in black and white and usually contain only text, binary images and 8-bit grayscale images, while the latter were written to be published in color and contain color images and drawings. Note: All papers are optimized for printing and may not scale well for screen viewing.

The buttons to the above right allow you to login, logout, or to update demographics for the very few demographics that we keep along with your email address. This information is strictly confidential and will not be given out to anyone (without a court order---which is pretty unlikely). Demographics are gathered only for the purpose of generating a composite analysis of the distribution of our reprints. If you and your browser allow "cookies", then you should login and your email address will be remembered for your entire session (logout removes the "cookie" or it will vanish by itself at the end of your browser session). If you do not allow "cookies", then you will be asked for your email address prior to each upload. If you do not have any demographics on file, then you will be asked, once, for the country in which you are working, your general work area and (optionally) the name of your organization the first time you make a request.
