| Over the last 16 years researchers at the Digital Mapping Laboratory have worked on a number of topics in automated cartographic feature extraction. This research has covered several subjects: automatic building extraction, road network extraction, stereo matching and analysis, digital terrain modeling, analysis of multispectral imagery, and the development of knowledge-based systems for scene interpretation. In this brief talk, I'll share a very personal view of what we've learned over the years, why progress has been so slow, and where the action is for the future. |
| Au cours des seize dernières années, les chercheurs du Digital Mapping Laboratory ont travaillé sur nombre de domaines relatifs á l'extraction automatique de données cartographiques. Ces recherches couvrent un large éventail de sujets: extraction automatique des bâtiments, extraction du réseau routier, mise en correspondance et analyse stéréoscopique, génération de modèles numériques de terrain, analyse d'imagerie multispectrale et développement de systèmes à base de connaissances pour l'interprétation de scènes. Dans cette courte présentation, je vais vous faire part de mon point de vue très personnel sur ce que nous avons appris au cours de ces années, pourquoi les progrès ont été aussi lents et où se situent les véritables actions pour le futur. |
